The opening of the Spring exhibition at the MET Museum in New York is the gala event of the year...Is it? I thought it was the the Oscars?

Oh no, the Oscars are in Hollywood, this is New York City...

Each May The Gala opening exhibition hosts a number of diverse personalities, not just from the fashion industry, but from film, music, socialites and business people.

This gala has become one of the most successful fund-raising events in the history of fund-raising. It started in 1948 by  Eleanor Lambert, and now it is run under the leadership of Trustee Anna Wintour (Editor-in-Chief of Vogue), who has been co-chair since 1995, excluding two years in 96 and 98.
This year the opening exhibition is called Punk: Chaos to Couture and it displays the close relationship between the fashion and the punk worlds. Anna Wintour is being assisted by actress Rooney Mara designer Ricardo Tisci, and Lauren Santo Domingo of Moda Operandi, who in part sponsors this exhibition.
There are 100 outfits on display. There are two distinctive fashionably punk colors, PINK and BLACK!

M Missoni in Spanish Cosmo May ‘13

I tried it out last weekend, just trusting my pulse and my own creativity to come up with some crazy design that would look amazing not just on the nails, but would look overall pretty on my hands! I even thought my goal was kind of hard as I tried to do some "classic" nail art, that would go with everything I'd wear during the week. There is no classic nail art! It is crazy, fun, and trendy! But there is a way of doing it with style, it might not be classic, but it can be stylish...

After painting them with a base of OPI bright orange, I proceeded to draw little dots with a dark gray color, that I think its called Lincoln in the Park at night....is it? Well, I don't remember and now I am feeling kind of lazy to go and check it out...anyway.....I ended up messing it up, when I started to incorporate a lighter version of orange, plus a light blue! Yes! I admit it, I had to use polish remover because what started as a cool trendy activity that would make me even trendier ;-) became a messy affair. I started to put coats and coats of different colors on top of one another, and it became a paste, difficult to remove!

If you have never shopped online, a good place to start is Etsy. I know a friend of mine who has been active there since 2009 and has found plenty of beautiful things to buy, from very respectable hard working people.
I am not the typical person who loves to shop online, yes, hard to believe ha? I spend most of my day wired to the internet, but it is mostly for work...And I enjoy it!

Last year during one of my classes at FIT, dedicated to trend forecasting I really understood what online shopping was all about. And it is no different than "normal" shopping, it still feeds on our wants and needs. For beauty, for pleasure, for possessing and owning the objects that we admire so much! And believe me... with all the amazing quality pictures that you can find online, it only feeds my desire for possession even further!
Here are some very pretty hair accessories I found on Etsy! Etsy started out as a Community for makers of handcrafted, and vintage items. So I went on to look for items that are both handcrafted and made with vintage materials...

The following five pair of blue denim jeans, are IDEAL for curvy girls. Starting from the left, they are all flattering to heavy bottom women.

I specially like the first and third pair, because they are somewhat straight cut, they are loose on the legs all the way from the top to the lower half, they are not hugging but also don't have flair. Perfect option!

The bell bottom blue jeans (second from the left) have extra flair at the lower leg, which helps to harmonize your body visually when you have big hips. These also sit a bit higher on the waist, helping create the illusion of longer legs.

Watch out for jeans like the bell bottoms on the "to be avoided" row, they are too tight on the hips and upper leg, and instead of helping you achieve a slender look, they accentuate the curves too much, by disrupting brutally from body hugging to too much flair at the lower leg. I don't recommend them.
Bell bottoms are the usual choice for women who are curvy, you just have to be careful when choosing them, and make sure they are not hugging your legs too much all the way to the knees. The flair should be more organic, and less dramatic. Starting all the way from the hips, and widening at the lower leg.

Boyfriend cut jeans like the fourth pair are also great for curvy girls. The straight cut and low pockets help to create a more vertical silhouette.

Jeans you should avoid are: the three pairs on the lower row.

First one we discussed the too dramatic bell bottom and why it is not good for curvy women.

The second one is almost a legging look. And unless you are curvy but extremely slim (usually they don't go together, but who knows, maybe you are the exception!) they exacerbate the curves too much and instead create a sausage look...please avoid! ;-)

Another thing to look out for when choosing the best jeans for curvy girls and women, is color.
 In the fifth pair from the top row you can see a slim darker shades of blue on both the outside and inside of the hip and upper leg, this helps to narrow down visually the size of both. So for the same reason, avoid the jeans that have lighter color on top and a darker shade in lower legs, like the third pair from the lower row.

I am helping you choose blue denim jeans, so make sure that the darker shades of the denim sit where you are heavier. Most jeans are washed out denim, so they have different shades, which designers use and play with to create different designs and effects. So use that to your advantage, because designers have body shapes and silhouettes in mind when they create them!

I hope this helps! Just keep in mind the first row of five pairs of jeans, are BEST OPTIONS for curvy women.

Since I had to walk the streets of the Garment District a couple of weeks ago, to find Spikes and Studs to fix a shirt for a photo shoot, I have been infatuated with them!







The following days I went for my walks, as usual, and found lots of spikes and studs all over the stores @ Fifth Avenue and Meatpacking District.

On clutches! I love this one on the left, it is from Diane Von Furstenberg's store @ West 14th Avenue. It is decorated with studs, that are rounded, so they won't get stuck on your dress! and because its design is quite simple and neutral, it would look amazing with any type of outfit. It also can be used daytime and nightime...

I usually just wear one thing around my neck, a rose quartz stone pendant necklace that I bought in Bali last year. I believe in having a "special" piece that has personal meaning as a daily accessory.

But I can't resist this Season's beautiful, crafted necklaces. And I chose the best of what for me are Statement pieces! Studs and Spikes!

Wear a very feminine lace dress, and then one of these!  the combination of soft and hard...is like a magnet....opposites always attract....And I am feeling more than a bit Edgy, lately...
